The latest episode of The Musicians' Hour with me, Jo Bell was a great one to record. Marten James is a young musician from Cork, who writes beautiful pop songs, which are extremely catchy and enjoyable to listen to.
During Episode 15, we talked about Marten's musican influences, which included a mixture of musicians, including Bruce Springsteen, Amy Winehouse, John Mayer, and Sam Fender. One of the things I really enjoy about meeting with so many musicians for the show is that I get to learn about artists I might not have heard of before, and John Mayer was one. His guitar playing and vocals are really pleasing on the ear and sound unbelievably clean.
But I digress. Listening to Marten performing his songs live at Community Radio Youghal was impressive. His guitar playing and vocals were stunning to listen to, and his insights into the songwriting process were fascinating to listen to. We also talked about the singles he has released: 'Hopeless', 'Fallen Star', and 'Only Reason, and he performed the first two for us.
Marten also played some new, as yet unreleased songs for us, inspired by moments in his life. It's a show that you won't want to miss, and you can download the episode from the CRY104fm podcast.
