Electric Picnic and Under Starling

Updated: Aug 14

Episode 7 of The Musician's Hour was released last week and featured Dungarvan alternative rock band Under Starling.

The band have been performing their original songs together since 2018 and have released two singles: Trick of the Light, and Wojtek, plus an EP: Portals, so far this year, with more singles to come.

Under Starling's singles are all accompanied by impressive and very imaginative music videos, which can be viewed on their YouTube channel.

This weekend they played Electric Picnic for the second time, taking to The Word stage and bringing their unique sound to a new audience. See Under Starling's Instagram for photos from the event.

Ahead of their performance, Under Starling joined me in the studio at Community Radio Youghal, as the featured artists on The Musician's Hour. They performed stripped back, acoustic versions of their hit songs: Arrows, Icarus, Trick of the Light, Canopies, and their latest single Wojtek.

It was great to chat with Danny, Colin, and Tommy of the band. They told me about the musicians that have inspired them, how they go about writing their songs and designing their music videos, and even delved into their musical history as a band and as individuals. It is a fascinating interview, interspersed with truly excellent live acoustic performances from the band.
